Future Network

SkyTerra Communications is taking wireless to new heights by developing a hybrid communications network which will integrate mobile satellite service with an ancillary terrestrial component (ATC). SkyTerra's next-generation network will provide ubiquitous wireless coverage throughout North America using an all-Internet Protocol (IP) open architecture.

Space Segment

For the space segment of this network, we engaged The Boeing Company to develop and build two satellites - among the most powerful commercial satellites ever built - which will form the backbone of an advanced commercial telecommunications network being developed by SkyTerra and its Canadian joint venture partner, SkyTerra Canada.

The network will provide significant advantages over existing wireless networks, including:

• higher data speeds
• significantly lower deployment and operating costs
• flexibility to support a range of IP applications and services

Open Network

SkyTerra's planned open network - in contrast to current legacy networks - will allow distribution and other strategic partners to have open network access to create a variety of customer applications and services for consumers.

In fact, this network will revolutionize end users' experience with wireless communications. These customers will enjoy seamless, transparent wireless voice and data communications using conventional handsets.

Further, our open architecture network will enable partners to develop a wide range of applications, services and devices that will use SkyTerra's chipset technology to deliver new and innovative solutions to their customer base.
