SkyTerra Unveils Transition Plans for Customers onto Its Next-Generation Network
Reston, Va., June 16, 2009
SkyTerra (OTCBB: SKYT) has unveiled plans that will allow its current voice and push-to-talk customers to transition to the company's next generation integrated satellite-terrestrial network and services.
As part of the initial phase of SkyTerra's Customer Transition Incentive Program, SkyTerra customers who own an active MSAT-G2 radio, or customers who purchase MSAT-G2 radios and are active SkyTerra customers prior to the company's transition to its next-generation network, will be eligible to receive a new next-generation device for each active radio at the time when SkyTerra formally announces the transition.
"The new next-generation devices will be available to current SkyTerra customers with active MSAT-G2 satellite radio equipment accounts at the time of transition from the company's MSAT service to SkyTerra's next-generation network," noted Marc Montagner, executive vice president of strategy, development and distribution for SkyTerra. "This offer is part of the company's new Customer Transition Incentive Program and is subject to certain terms and conditions."
Supported by two of the most powerful commercial satellites ever built, SkyTerra's next-generation network is designed to provide seamless, transparent and ubiquitous wireless coverage of the United States and Canada to conventional handsets and commercial devices. The first of two SkyTerra next-generation satellites is planned for launch in first half of 2010.
"SkyTerra's two next-generation satellites are phenomenal communications assets that will enable government and enterprise customers as well as consumers to take advantage of new capabilities and applications using conventional handsets and mobile devices," Montagner said.
The company also plans to work with existing voice and push-to-talk customers with active accounts, regardless of equipment age and type, to facilitate transition to the company's next-generation network.
